Math-students are working on double digit subtraction and addition and problem-solving to help develop number sense. Working on breaking apart numbers before adding or subtracting instead of regrouping.

3rd Grade
Route to Reading we are working on inferencing skills, sequencing, and passage comprehension

Math we are working on introductory multiplication skills, multiplying by 10, and breaking apart

4th Grade
Math- we are working on units of measurement, focusing on converting and the metric system

October 11-October 15

Hello all,

Here's what's happening in the world of GTD Services at Irving School

2nd Grade Math students are working on riddles and problems with place value. These activities require the students to have strong number sense and have an understanding of place value to manipulate numbers.

2nd Grade Reading students have finished 26 Fairmount Avenue by Tomie DePaola and the kids have been writing about events in their own lives to create their own autobiographies. We are editing our writing and creating covers for our "books"

3rd Grade Math students did not meet this past week due to the Columbus Day holiday

4th Grade Math students are working on data collection and have learned about line plots and stem and leaf plots. Also working on division strategies.

5th Grade Math students are finishing up Unit 2, beginning Unit 3, and working on data collection presentations.

Have a great week.

Welcome back!

Hello everyone, welcome to the 2010/2011 school year. With several new teachers and classrooms, the school making AYP this year, and the general excitement of returning to school, there is such a wonderful energy in the air this week.

Have you checked out the Irving Garden, holy tomatoes batman. There is a sunflower that is almost two stories high with a stalk as thick as a small tree.

I came across this interesting article regarding creativity in Newsweek. Makes a strong argument for Gifted Ed and change in our education system. If you have not read it, you may want to take the time.

Hope you have a great week!
