November 29-December 3

Hello everyone,
I hope you had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving break with family and friends. Here is what's going on in the world of GTD services at Irving School.

Kindergarten
Route to Reading-working on adding, deleting, and substituting phonemes (sounds) from words (e.g. "say trace", "trace", "without the 't'", "race")

1st Grade
Continuing to push in for thinking skills. Finishing up "Dot Goes to the Grocery Store" where students have to use higher level thinking skills and problem solving to answer problems and questions regarding events that could take place at the super market. Dot is going on vacation and we will have a return to Dudley the Detective and friends.

2nd Grade
Reading-we have not met for the last couple of weeks, but getting back on track with reading Edward Eager's "Half Magic" and working on comprehension skills (focusing on inferencing and sequencing)

Math-students are working on double digit subtraction and addition and problem-solving to help develop number sense. Working on breaking apart numbers before adding or subtracting instead of regrouping.

3rd Grade
Route to Reading we are working on inferencing skills, sequencing, and passage comprehension

Math we are working on introductory multiplication skills, multiplying by 10, and breaking apart

4th Grade
Math- we are working on units of measurement, focusing on converting and the metric system

5th Grade
Math-We are diligently working on Unit 4 in Everyday Math (operations with fractions) and continuing to work on various problem-solving and algebraic thinking.
